Guided Tours & History Lectures in Beverley

Archaeology, voices from the past and Beverley trades are all on the autumn local history lecture agenda this year at the Treasure House.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s archives and local studies service has organised a complimentary programme to the Champney Lectures currently taking place as part of the Champney Exhibition.

This autumn series is in its 17th year and commences with David Evans ‘past and present presentation’ of ‘The Dash for Gas: the archaeology of pipelines and gas facilities in the East Riding’ on Monday, 11 October.

John Tibbles will talk about ‘Flemingate Rediscovered’ – the results of recent archaeological work – on Monday, 15 November.

Finally, Professor Barbara English will speak on the subject of ‘Voices from the Past in East Yorkshire’ on Monday, 22 November, looking at what we can learn about the area through the written word as found in archaeological remains and records throughout the ages.

Lectures commence at 7.30pm in the Treasure House. All speakers are experts in their respective fields.

Two guided tours focussing on the medieval guilds and crafts of Beverley entitled ‘Beverley Town Trail Revealed’ will be provided by:

Paul Schofield – ‘North Beverley Trail’ (meet at the Tourist Office – Toll Gavel/Well Lane) on Tuesday 2 November and Pam Hopkins – ‘South Beverley Trail’ (meet outside County Hall, Cross Street) on Saturday 13 November (max. 25 people on this tour only).

Both tours commence at 10am.

Booking is essential for all events by visiting the archives and local studies service, calling (01482) 39279
