Beverley Entertain Rossendale in Foot of the Table Clash

This Saturday’s visitors to Beaver Park are Rossendale RFC who travel from Lancashire to take on Beverley in the National League 3(North) fixture.

Lying just one place below the Beavers in the league table, Rossendale are a big, physical side and Beverley need a win to take them away from the foot of the table.

Coach James McKay said earlier this week, “Each of our four defeats this season have been against teams in the top 5 positions in the league table and all by less than 7 points, thus earning us a bonus point in each game. Also, we finished that strongly in all of them that, given another five minutes we would probably have won them. It is for that reason that I am happy enough with our start to the season and confident that, if we can cut out the few silly mistakes which are costing us points early in games, we will finish well in the top half of the table.”

McKay himself misses Saturday’s game following eye surgery and is replaced in the back row by newcomer John Stephenson. Front row rotation sees props Danny Morris and Mark Hatfield on the bench and Francis Pickering and Dave Brant starting.
Similarly Phil Dale, after impressing coming on as a replacement last week, starts in the full back role with Chris Harding switching to the left wing in place of the unavailable Glen Walden. Right winger Goran Jelencic is away on international duty with Slovenia and Jamie Gill steps up in his place after several impressive performances for the seconds.
