Three member from the same family all achieved medals in the recent British Schools Score Championships. The annual event, which this year was held near Blackburn, at Witton Country Park took place on Saturday October 9th and attracts individuals from schools all over Britain.
Competitors compete within their own school year groups and the winners are those who navigate to more orienteering controls than their competitors in the time allowed.
This year three members of one family, the Fields from Beverley, did extremely well to achieve medals. Youngest, Joe, took Bronze in the Year 5 Boys (despite being a Year 4 pupil). Yasmin won the Silver medal in the Year 7 Girls contest and brother Jake, competing in the Year 9 Boys competition, also achieved a Silver medal.
All three victors, along with their family, regularly attend the Beverley Orienteering Club Night at Longcroft Upper School which takes place from 6:30pm to 8:00pm on Monday evenings during term-time. There is still room for new members to join; the sport of Orienteering is suitable for families as well as individuals.
