Molescroft Rangers made it three wins out of three in October and christened their new kit with victory which should have been far more comfortable than it ended up. With the “Iceman” Tony Walker returning to the side after injury Molescroft started the game feeling like they had goals in them and this was confirmed just five minutes in when top scorer Spruce latched onto a Windeler long ball to round the keeper to slot his 8th of the season and give Moley the best possible start.
The lead was quickly doubled when Richard Dixon, returning to his familiar left back role fired in from twenty yards leaving the travelling fans expecting a landslide victory. The ease in which the lead was doubled seemed to breed complacency and after Riston pulled one back following indecision in the Rangers box the comeback was complete on the stroke of half time.
Some harsh words at the interval seemed to kick Molescroft into life and they regained the lead minutes after the break with Tony Walker pouncing on a goal keeping error despite clearly struggling with injury. The Iceman struck his second and his sides fourth with similar ease to his first moments earlier and that signalled the end of his afternoon as he was replaced by Massey who returned to the squad after two weeks out shopping for Wedding stuff.
Molescroft continued to press and only some good goal keeping from the previously inept Riston keeper kept the score down. Richards replaced Pardoe at right back and immediately doubled Rangers average age but his combative attitude seemed to spur Rangers on and they scored their fifth with Spruce getting his second to kill Riston off.
Warmlsy then replaced Milner and began testing the Riston defence with some frighteningly quick runs before the game was soured with a contentious penalty which resulted in Windeler who was having a magnificent game seeing red. Justice was served though as Paul Bryce produced an amazing double save to keep the shy and retiring Riston forward nicknamed “gobshite” from gaining his side a slight piece of respectability.
The remainder of the game was easily seen out with ten men, and back at the pub thoughts turned to Molescrofts transfer targets who for legal reasons can only be known as “The Bull” and “Danny” as they look to tweak a solid squad ready for the remainder of the season. Next week sees Molescroft travel the short distance to play rivals Withernsea Reserves.
