A new exhibition will open on Friday, 22 October, at the Beverley Community Museum in the Beverley Guildhall. This latest in the series of local history exhibitions in the Guildhall is entitled “More than a Minster” and looks at the full range of churches, chapels and meeting houses in Beverley, past and present.
Fiona Jenkinson, curator, said: “Obviously Beverley Minster is the main church that most people will think of, but we believe that the sheer number of religious buildings, many of which have now disappeared, will surprise many people. In fact, we have only touched on the Minster since it has been covered much better elsewhere, and instead have concentrated on the less well-known buildings. We do hope, however, that including some stunning pictures of the Minster and St Mary’s will encourage more people to visit these two beautiful churches.”
The Guildhall is open every Friday from 10am to 4pm, with free admission and the exhibition “More than a Minster” will continue until June 2011.
Work is already starting on the next exhibition, which will be “Pastures and Pasture Masters”. Anybody with information, objects, photographs or memories relating to this subject should bring them to the Guildhall on any Friday, or contact Fiona Jenkinson on (01482) 392783 or by email at fiona.jenkinson@eastriding.gov.uk
