The Beverley Theatre Company will be staging their first production of the 2010 / 11 season when they perform the comedy, ‘Plaza Suite’ at the Memorial Hall in Beverley from the 10th to the 13th November.
The play, written by Neil Simon, was originally performed in New York in 1968, and the three acts see three different couples dealing with very different issues in the same hotel room.
Karen and Sam are re-visiting the same suite they had on their honeymoon (or so Karen thinks) to celebrate their 23rd wedding anniversary (or maybe their 24th!). It is not quite the rekindling of the old romance that Karen intended however as Sam has other things on his mind!
Jesse, back in town to sign a director for his new movie decides to look up an old flame. Star struck Muriel decides to oblige with a visit to Jesse’s hotel room before having to return home to get dinner for her family. The question is, does she make it home?
In the third act, Mimsey is getting married but is worried about her future and has locked herself in the bathroom! Roy and Norma get all worked up trying to get their daughter out of there in time to say ‘I do’ before the hors d’oeuvres run out.
Once again, the company have had an unexpected return to the Beverley Memorial Hall before it closes for refurbishment, likely to be next year. Until then, the company will perform at their home in Beverley, so do keep your eyes open for announcements in the local press and on posters around the town and villages!
Meanwhile, the company is still actively recruiting. So, anyone interested in acting or production activities can send an email to: beverleytheatre@hotmail.co.uk or alternatively, call the Membership Secretary Yvonne Parkinson on 01964 544491 for an informal chat.
