Miriam Roycroft and Anne-Marie Hastings will be performing at The Toll Gavel United Church, Beverley on Thursday 11 November 2010 at 7.30pm.
2010 has been a very interesting year for fans of classical music. Many of yesterday’s giants of composition have had important anniversaries to celebrate and this evening’s programme will include works by Schumann, Barber, Pergolesi, Beethoven and Chopin.
Dublin-born Miriam Roycroft studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Ralph Kirshbaum and Don McCall. Upon graduation she won the Muriel Taylor Cello Competition in London and was a prize-winner in the Royal Overseas League Competition. Further studies included a period in Banff, Canada with Aldo Parisot.
Miriam has performed many times as soloist with the RTE NSO and has played most of the major concerti for cello with orchestras throughout the UK and Ireland. She has been a guest leader of the cello sections of the NSO, the BBCSSO, Sinfonia ViVa and the Northern Sinfonia and has also guest co-lead the cello sections of the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBCCO. She has performed with John O’Conor at the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin and also at the Music in Great Irish Houses Festival in June 2008 with the American cellist, Steven Doane.
Miriam was a member of the Orchestra of Opera North but in September 2006 she joined the String Faculty of the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.
Miriam is principal cello of Camerata Ireland with whom she has toured extensively in America, Europe and China.
Anne-Marie Hastings was born in London and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Sulamita Aronovsky and Renna Kellaway.
She works regularly as a chamber musician, performing extensively with pianist Sally Bishop. Anne-Marie has performed at the Bridgewater and Wigmore Halls, the South Bank and numerous British Festivals. She has also broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland, Classic FM, Radio 4’s ‘Woman’s Hour’ and Granada Television. In addition to competition successes in Great Britain and Japan, she has appeared as soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Manchester Camerata and the Northern Chamber Orchestra.
