With their summer season now over, almost fifty players received trophies and medals at the 2010 Beverley Braves presentations for the Cubs, under eights and under nines at Hodgsons on Sunday 17th October.
The ever increasing popularity of the club was emphasised by the number of cubs receiving medals from guest of honour Airlie Bird, the Hull FC mascot. The eleven cubs are all under six and whilst they do not play matches they learn the basic skills of the game in preparation for when they can play matches at the age of six. They also have the opportunity to take part in the ‘cubs@play’ tournaments during the summer.
There were two under eights teams during the 2010 season, twenty four players in all, and as well as receiving well earned individual trophies the
players and their parents voted for a number of specific awards. In the under eights B team (effectively the under 7’s) ‘Man of Steel’ was Charlie
Barker, and ‘Player’s Player’ was William Cohen. Isaac Merryweather and Shamus Blades received ‘Player’s Player’ second and third place respectively. Alexei Rawling’s progress through the season was recognised with the ‘Most Improved Player’ award.
In the Under eights A team, top try scorer William Wallis was voted ‘Man of Steel’, with Marcus Walker ‘Player’s Player’ and William Snook and Ethan Rowbotham second and third in that category. A great season for Ryan Deane was rewarded with the ‘Most Improved Player’ award.
Finally the under nines looked back at their 2010 season with recognition of Tom Parkinson as ‘Man of Steel’. ‘Player’s Player’ was Lewis Miller, with Connor Weinman and Lewis Gaden taking the next two awards for ‘Player’s Player’. Finally Harry Griffin capped off his season with the ‘Most Improved Player’ award.
All the presentations made special reference to the volunteers who put in a huge amount of time and effort to ensure the club functions in an efficient manner, including members of the committee, coaches, touchline marshals, parents and the Beverley rugby league supporters club.
All teams are always on the look out for new players therefore any boys or girls interested in trying their hand at this exciting team sport can come along to training at Longcroft on a Saturday mornings at 10am and ask for any of the coaches. Training begins again on 13th November. Alternatively visit the club’s website
