Molescroft never got out of 2nd gear as they saw off a poor Brandesburton team with ease at Fortress Leisure Centre to record their fifth straight victory in October. Manager Healey started with the same team as the previous week with “The Iceman” Walker returning from injury to take a place on the bench along with Milner and Warmsly.
Reports during the week on the teletext transfer rumours page regarding the possible transfer of Pete “The Bull” Turnbull to Molescroft seemed to be well placed as he was seen at pitch side just after kick off signing autographs and posing for photos. A fee has been agreed with his current club Reckitts and all that is needed is for personal terms to be agreed for the transfer to go through, although one sticking point may be the players signing-on fee which is rumoured to be a two figure sum.
Back to the game, and Molescroft got off to be the best possible start, Massey firing in after one minute with the help of a massive deflection. Molescroft soon made it two with a flowing move expertly finished by Pardoe, running onto a through ball from Coates and chipping the on rushing keeper with his left foot. Moments before half time and the inevitable happened, no not Rich Dixon getting his wallet out but Darren Spruce scoring a goal to continue his run of a goal in every game by firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
The second half was played at a canter with Brandesburton failing to really trouble Bryce in goal who was seen curled up asleep at the foot of the post at one point in the game. Another goal from Spruce, his 12th of the season, made it four nil and saw Molescroft revert back to 4-4-2 with the hard working Coates making way for the “The Iceman” with half an hour to go. Having missed last week through injury “The Iceman” was keen to impress and began to test the Brans backline with surging runs despite suffering with a stinking hangover. Captain Nicholson made it five from a Pardoe corner, heading in unmarked with twenty minutes to go as Molescroft continued to dominate in a totally one sided match. Milner and Warmsly came on for Massey and Richards, the latter who had been resuscitated twice during the game due to ill effects from a mid week trip to Amsterdam. Both players made an impact on the game but couldn’t add to the scoreline which wouldn’t have been flattering if it had been into double figures.
After the game, Moley enjoyed the victory back at the Sloop with “The Bull” getting his first taste of post match banter and Rich Dixons constant and loud inane drivel. Newly promoted assistant Manager Jimmy Radley continued Moleys fine form in October by scooping the doms although his opposition had let him win as he tends to cry when he doesn’t get his own way.
Next week sees Molescroft entertain Withernsea in the second round of the Junior Cup and with keeper Bryce away filming another episode of Taggart a loan signing may be brought in to fill his gloves.
