Beverley Conservative Club’s second fashion show was a resounding success last night.
The event, the brainchild of the club’s social secretary Christine Bulmer, attracted a big crowd and some of the town’s best fashion labels to the Wylies Road club.
It boasted models exhibiting fantastic clothes by Marcona and East, from Brown’s department store, Collections, of Wednesday Market, Toll Gavel’s Viyella and Country Collections, and nearly-new fashion house Beverley Dresser, from North Bar Within.
Christine, speaking to HU17.net, said she started the event to attract new members into the club and to raise money for her “favourite charity”, Dove House Hospice.
She continued: “We did our first show in May. It started off when I became social secretary and I wanted to really get people in to see what sort of a club we have here.
“While the idea was to get new members and make money for our social side so I can attract new members, it was also to raise money and put more events on for my favourite charity – Dove House Hospice.
“Also, not a great deal had been done in the past for ladies at the club, so I wanted to do something for them.
“It’s about people having a good time and also advertising what we have at the club.
“The people and labels involved with the show are loving it – they enjoyed it so much in May and they wanted to come again.
“We treat them well, provide them with wine and a buffet and it works to everyone’s advantage.
“On a personal note, I am not so panicky about this as I was the first one!”
Sue Elvidge, who runs Beverley Dresser, explained why the fashion show is such a hit with her.
As a dress agency, customers can bring nearly-new and never-worn clothes they have bought into Sue, and she sells them on commission with everyone benefitting.
She said: “Last night we had clothes from Jaegar, Moschano – even a gorgeous designer handbag from Mui Mui.
“We get fantastic names such as Dolce and Gabbana, lots of nice evening wear, names such as NYDJ – Not Your Daughter’s Jeans – instant tummy tucking jeans which make you drop a size immediately.
“This sort of event gets our name out there. There are still a lot of people who don’t know what a dress agency is.
“A lot of garments come in that are unused and just a wrong buy.
“For example, last night we had a Dolce and Gabbana blouse that cost £150 – I can pass it on for £40 and they go away happy as they could not normally could afford it.”
