Volunteers at the Beverley-based CSV East Riding project are celebrating the good news that they were hoping for. They have received feedback from the British Council giving them a strong indication that their application for almost 10 thousand euro will be accepted and official confirmation received in January.

This core group are heading out east to Bridlington to develop this European Commission funded Youth in Action project with other young people from that area and in the surrounding villages. This national Youth Initiative idea called Angels in Action was brought over to the UK from Italy by volunteers who took part in a Citizenship project called Youworth back in February; they worked with Italian colleagues from the successful ‘Angeli Alle Fermate’ project, ‘Angels at the Bus stop’, operating both in Bologna and Genova.

The teams of participants will welcome people to the town during the summer months creating a vibrant community atmosphere and helping to provide a feel-good factor and in addition, other young people will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and provide street entertainment to its visitors.

Sue Dudill, Project Coordinator and Coach for the team, expressed her delight at the positive comments received.

‘We are over the moon that our hard work has been recognised and that we can now concentrate on creating a project which will make a positive contribution to the Bridlington community in 2011, the European Year of Volunteering. We would like to involve as many young people as possible aged 16 to 30 and provide them with a worthwhile opportunity to get involved in something very different; the benefits to both the young people and the community will be both great and long lasting.

Liz Jack, heading up the young volunteers, explained that they are now actively recruiting young people to play a key role in the organising of this innovative project. ‘Teams of angels will be sourced and trained up next year to both welcome and entertain its visitors and be part of a spectacular, high visibility event’ she said.
