Beverley ARLC End Losing Streak With Fine Win at Fenners

The Blue and Golds finally ended the losing streak which has seen them slide down the table, and did so in impressive style.

There were a number of star performers. Gavin Proctor marshalled and prompted his troops well from the hooker position while Louis Hubbard claimed a hat trick of tries and demonstrated that he has lost nothing in his spell away in boxing.

The half back combination of Steve Johnson and Steve Davidson dominated proceedings and continued to provide options aplenty. Aaron Clark opened the scoring with a try after only five minutes before Louis Hubbard went over following Steve Johnson’s well timed pass after he appeared to be dancing around and almost taunting the Fenners defence. Aaron Clark claimed his second try before the visitors went off the boil. This allowed the hosts to pull back a try and peg back the score to 18-6 at the interval.

The second half saw Beverley turn the screw and Steve Johnson’s clever infield kick was pounced on by full back Lee Falcus who crowned a near flawless display in defence and attack with a try. Johnson was again instrumental in the next score slicing through the middle to unselfishly draw the full back and send Lee Lockton over for a try. Crisp handling then followed with Guy Adams sending Louis Hubbard over in the corner for his second. Mike Brown then added a try for good measure before Louis Hubbard completed his hat trick. The home side replied with a try in the closing minutes. This was a pleasing afternoon’s work. It put a smile on coach Rich Shaw’s face and showed that some of his new summer signings are now starting to gel. Passes were going to hand when so often they have gone to ground this season.

Beverley will hope to keep the momentum going when they entertain Norland Sharks ‘A’ next Saturday at the Leisure Centre. The Hessle side topped the table last season but could not be promoted as their first team are in the division above. They have struggled in the lower reaches of the table so far this season so the Blue and Golds will approach the game with confidence. The kick-off is 2pm.
