A new trail race was added to the calendar of local events last week with the inaugural Dalby Dash. Organised by Pickering Running Club in aid of Pickering Rotary Club and Help for Heroes, the race attracted a field of over 350 runners.
It was a cool and misty start from Dalby Forest Visitor Centre with runners facing a gruelling 1½ mile climb to the summit of Housedale before a long descent through the forest to the finish. The scenery was spectacular and the smell of the pine trees intoxicating.
Representing Beverley Athletic Club were Claire Traynor and Steve Hadley. Traynor finished in 43.56 and was really pleased with her performance over the tough 10k course. She was the eighth lady to finish and 67th overall. Steve Hadley finished in 53.21.
The race was won by Danny Schofield of Scarborough AC in 33.39 and the first lady was Heather Tuffs of York Acorn Running Club in 39.56.
