Local retired vet Paddy Sweeney served a summons on Chisolms the Bookmakers over a dispute involving a counterfeit twenty pound note, and won. Paddy claimed he received the counterfeit note from them, and was only made aware of it when he tried to use it in another store.
Paddy Sweeney said “I got a letter from the bookmaker saying that the matter was closed and that I was not going to get my money back.”
“In reply, I sent a letter to them saying that said this matter is not for closure. I may not live too long, but I will live long enough to see you in court.”
Paddy did see them in court this Monday, where he won his case and was awarded his £20 and £55 in costs.
Paddy added “I told the judge I was disappointed not to get any form of damages for the embarrassment my wife and I suffered as a result of this incident.”
“We were shopping at Morrisons, paying for our food, when the young lady on the till pointed out the note was a fake.”
Paddy said he will be sending the money that he is due to the families of the two jockeys who died in the fire in Malton in 2009. They were Jamie Kyne, 18, from County Galway in the Irish Republic, and the of Jan Wilson, 19, from Forfar in Angus.
Nice one Paddy, we must raise a glass to it at Christmas.

I was walking my Dog in Beverley and had no idea who this Senior Gent was – I was flattered by his enthusiasm for “Ollie” and perplexed when he said he would take Olliie and care for him should I ever need him to….I didn’t know it was Paddy but I was impressed by his openess and obvious sincerity.
I have met Paddy today and once more the same offer but this time he was even more enthusiastic – what a lovely man, but I still knew nothing about him untillI did an internet search….do I feel stupid…you bet…please God let him live for as long as the world needs him and Real People such as he.
Great man Charlie is a pretty cool dog too 🙂
