A new construction course which will fast track people to the standard expected on building sites is to start at East Riding College in Beverley this month.
The Level One Construction course will combine two smaller courses – one on building materials and the other on various construction methods – and will run from January 18 until June.
It will quickly prepare students for the one-year Level Two Diploma in Bricklaying, which starts in September and gets learners to the level of ability employers expect on site.

“This course is a great way of making yourself employable in the construction industry. Even with no experience, you could reach level two within 18 months, which would really strengthen your CV.
“The construction industry is always the first to come out of recession so it is expected that there should be increasing numbers of jobs in this sector, especially with the forthcoming major housing and health service developments in the area.”
The Level One Construction course will look at topics such as handling and storing construction materials and components; gauging and mixing mortar, concrete and plaster; disposing of waste safely and in accordance with legislation and official guidance; cutting and laying bricks and blocks to level and line; and cutting and fixing wall tiles and plasterboard.
