Eager Beaver Unlucky to Exit Cup

The Eager Beaver crashed out of the quarter final of the Sponsors Cup losing 2–1 to Ryder FC.

The side from West Hull took the lead inside the first 10 minutes and added a second goal mid-way through the first half.

After the restart the Eager Beaver played with more purpose, the introduction of Danny Moon proved to be a managerial master stroke. Karl Fisher found space to play and create chances for the Beverley side.

Phillip Matthews was lucky not to see red after a moment of madness saw him take down a Ryder FC forward who was clean through on goal. Lucky to escape with just a yellow card, Mathews was relieved to see the resulting penalty hit both the bar and the post before being cleared.

As time was running out, Jason Catell gave the Eager Beaver a lifeline scoring a scrappy goal from close range. They continued to pile on the pressure, though poor finishing proved costly.

With what was pretty much the final kick of the game Rob West nearly forced extra time. The Beaver’s talisman let fly with cracking lobbed shot that beat the outstretched keeper scraping the bar before landing on the roof of the net.

Man of the Match was given to Danny Moon, though the bigger talking point was the fashion accessory of Zac Yeats. The winger was sporting an orange ‘snood’ an item of clothing many foreign players are wearing to keep out the cold.

The snood has been criticised by football pundits with the one of the greatest football managers of all time Sir Alex Ferguson saying ‘Snoods are for powder puffs.’

Yeats said: “Phillip got us all a snood this winter and it was the first time I had worn it! I was not keen but it kept me warm and helped my performance.”

When asked if he would recommend a snood to other footballers Yeats replied: “It worked yeah, but I would not rave about them, you do get a bit off stick!”
