Bulldogs Get 2011 off to a Winning Start

Beverley Whitestar Bulldogs started the New Year with a win and a good display of passing football.

Although Bulldogs have been without a competitive game since early November it didn’t show as they confined their visitors to their own half for much of the game. Bulldogs moved well down the flanks with nice touches between midfield and the front runners. George Woods went close for Bulldogs with a rasping shot which went just over the bar and then an effort from Lewis Cunningham was well saved by the keeper. Sporting tried to hit Bulldogs on the break and their front runners were excellent on the ball but Will Clarke, Declan Corlyon and Jed Clarke worked well at the centre of defence for Bulldogs to keep them out.

The second half was also a strong one for Bulldogs and it only seemed a matter of time before they scored. Brad Winters headed just over from a free kick but shortly after he slotted an inch perfect pass to Lewis Cunningham who smashed home a superb shot from outside the box to give Bulldogs a deserved lead. Bulldogs’ midfield worked tirelessly with Jordan Day linking up well with Nathan Dodsworth on the left with some lovely through balls for the wingers. Both teams had a couple more chances before the end but one goal was enough to settle this entertaining match and a great start to the New Year for Bulldogs.
