Humberside Police: Beverley Minster & Woodmansey Update for December 2010

1.Priority

Issue: Mintfields – Anti social Behaviour

There were no incidents of anti social behaviour in the Mintfields Road area during the month of December. The problem with vehicles being used in an anti social manner on the street appear to be a thing of the past. The person who was identified as been the main offender was dealt with for road traffic offences and was also dealt with by ourselves and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Housing Department for anti social behaviour issues.  As a result the offender moved away from the area.

2. Priority

Issue: – Parking and Obstruction Offences – Schools

One of our most common complaints is over the parking by parents or carers taking their children to school.  They park on double yellow lines and on the zig zags outside schools which are put there for the safety of the children.  They also tend to park and obstruct residents driveways, and when challenged can be abusive.  This is a common complaint throughout the East Riding and is easily solved.  If you left 5 mins earlier, then you would be able to park a short distance from the school and walk in.

Most schools now have travel plans, and this can be easily incorporated into it.  Motorists who flout this, will have their registrations noted, and will receive a fixed penalty notice should they continue to contravene parking regulations.

3. Priority

Issue: Drugs Cannabis Private Residence and Class A Night Time Economy

A new priority here to tackle the issue of drugs within the Town.  Now it must be made clear that we are not saying there is a drug issue within Beverley, however, as in many towns throughout the country, there is some usage which we are keen to stamp out.  This can range from people cultivating cannabis in their own homes, to supplying Class A drugs within licensed premises.

A number of activities will take place to target offenders, but naturally we cannot give specific plans here.  If however, you have any information over drug dealing or cultivation, then please ring through to the neighbourhood team or to Crime Stoppers if you prefer and give the information there.

4. Offenders brought to justice

The Christmas period seems to have affected people’s behaviour where drink appears to be a common factor as a lot of offenders have been dealt for public order offences. I always thought it was a time to be jolly but these days it appears to be a time to be abusive and stupid – why can’t people just have a good time?

An adult male was dealt with for a Section 5 Public Order offence that took place in Saturday Market on the 5th December and was issued with an £80 fine.   An adult male was dealt with for a Section 5 Public Order offence (swearing in the street) on Knights Way on the 8th December.

An adult male was charged to appear at Beverley Magistrates for the offences of possession of an offensive weapon and also affray following an incident that happened on the 11th December on Goths Lane.

On the 15th December another adult was dealt with by way of an £80 fixed penalty ticket following a Section 5 Public Order Offence that took place on Hull Road, Woodmansey.

During December several members of a group of youths that have caused various problems to the neighbourhood team over the last few months attended Beverley Magistrates on the 14th December. This was a result of numerous investigations and shows that anti social behaviour will not be tolerated. All 6 of the offenders pleaded guilty to offences that they had been charged with.
