Whitestar Ladies Beaten by Title Favourites Pinefleet

Sunday afternoon saw a hard fought top of the table clash take place at a wet and windy Leconfield.

In the first half Pinefleeet with the wind behind them took the game to the hosts. However they found the Whitestar back four of Jenna Potter, Mel Marsden, Jodie Berry and the impressive Laura Stevenson, who has just returned from a lengthy lay off, impassable and were restricted to long range shots that keeper Dale Boat handled with little difficulty.  When Whitestar did get forward Lauren Coleman, Lauren Hurst and Zoe Ellis looked dangerous while Rachel Fisher was a constant threat.

With the scores level at half time there was all still to play but for. With 20 minutes to remaining the referee awarded Pinefleet a penalty for what is best described as a “Suarez” handball and the visitors went one up.  Megan Jordan was driving Beverley forward from the middle of the park while Becks Thompson was pushed up front to help Rachel Fisher who had worked tirelessly looking for the equaliser.  In the last minute Pinefleet made it two and took all three points.

After nearly two months off with the weather playing havoc with the fixtures Beverley understandably took a while to get going again but deserve huge credit for hanging in there against a very good side and worthy winners in Pinefleet.  Pinefleet  now look likely to win Division 2 but Whitestar will be looking to pounce on any slip ups in pursuit with all still to play for.

Woman of the Match was Rachel Fisher who was immense and put in a tremendous amount of work and effort and set a real example while leading from the front.

Final score Beverley Whitestar 0 Pinefleet 2
