Beverley Town Mohicans went into this quarter final full of confidence following some great training sessions and were soon on top when a corner from Callum Ward was met by a very powerful header from Will Collingwood which gave the keeper no chance.
A minute later Dan Naldrett collected a clearance, and after dribbling to midway in Anlaby’s half, unleashed a super strike which flew into the top of the net. On 11 minutes Sam Tuft skilfully beat a couple of players before laying the ball to Dan Naldrett who again drove the ball past a helpless keeper. Anlaby did pull a goal back on 25 minutes, however Mohicans were not going to let them back into the game and following a clearance by Greg Whyley, Jamie Spence flicked it on to Oliver Morrison who raced through to make it 4-1 at half time.
The second half started in the same vein with Louie Kelly, Greg Whyley, Harry Stanforth and Will Woods keeping it very tight at the back. When Steve Heath was upended 35 yards out there was one player whose eyes lit up. Callum Ward is getting a reputation for ‘Ronaldo type’ free kicks and he duly obliged with another great strike into the top corner. Marc O’Hare then played in Oliver Morrison for his second of the match, and his hat-trick was completed when he collected an Anlaby dead ball and raced through and struck the corner of the net.
Mohicans rounded off a fine performance when Steve Heath powerfully hit the ball from 25 yards out to again give Anlaby’s beleaguered keeper no chance. Despite having very little to do for the previous 60 minutes Charlie Brooks stayed alert and produced two brilliant ‘one on one’ saves late in the match. Man of the Match went to Callum Ward for his continued running, control of the centre of midfield and a great free kick. Well done to all the lads though for a great team performance.
The win sees the Mohicans into the semi-final against Victoria Dock if they win it will be the finals for the third time in three successive years.
