Storming Norman Bags His First Try as Braves Win on the Road

After a lengthy lay off both sides were definitely up for the game in the mornings blustery conditions.

Straight from the off Jamie Branton ran strongly into Wyke’s defence to show them exactly the sort of team they were up against. In the next few moments Harvey Lazenby had to be taken off with an injury to the face which did not see him return to the field of play. The Braves quickly regrouped and had an excellent move with flowing passes down to the wing where Dan Norman confidently put the ball over the white wash to bag his first try of the campaign.

Straight from the kick off saw Braves pile on the pressure again and quickly forced Wyke back on their own line. The goal line drop out meant Beverley could continue their attack led by Callum Officer who excelled in both defence and going forward and starting off a fantastic move, Dylan Clifford took over the drive gaining massive yards down the middle of the pitch to release Joe Wardill, then fast hands to James McGahey who found Owen Harrison and he broke through the Hull defence to touch down under the sticks and then convert his own try. Text book stuff.
Again from the off Bailey Foulston ran with such force down the middle and through the pack, side stepping his way towards Wyke’s line. The drop out that followed saw Branton strongly run over to score and Harrison to convert from out wide despite the strong cross winds.

Wyke’s kick found another secure pair of hands from Beverley and Danny Dawson had a charging run at the Wyke forwards, Jay Black did some nimble side steps to release McGahey to place the ball down under the posts, again converted by Harrison. Half time score 0-22.
This time the Braves were against the wind but Hull Wyke could not penetrate the tight defence on display.  Wyke did not give up though and never stopped battling away at the opposition. Another superb pass from Black again released McGahey who forced his way through the wall of Hull’s defence. Another magical kick from Harrison edged the score further from the home sides reach.

Wyke had some big lads running really well down the middle of the park and their spirit shone through but crunching tackles halted them in their tracks. Inside their own half Beverley’s Harrison made a pin point pass to Wardill who ran into the wind and away from the Wyke players to cross the line.

From the kick Clifford continued the onslaught and smashed his way through from some yards back to stun Wyke with an awesome try.
Dawson also continued his own battle with some fantastic charging runs down the middle of the field. Black, who is there supporting players all the time, his kick released Harry Gray who, with a speedy run, broke through the Hull players and as he went for the uprights, the spirit of Wyke never to stop, saw a late tackle force the ball out of Gray’s hands into the air only for Callam Bielby to pounce on and score. Another two tries quickly followed the first from Wardill deep in his own half after a lovely passing move and again from Wardill after he ran hard onto an accurately timed pass from Branton.

In the final minutes of the match Hull forced Beverley back but Branton read the game with such precision and caught the ball in mid air to give possession back and Tom Tozer had an excellent driving run and the game finished 0-56. This was a big team effort on their return for Beverley and they were aggressive and tough throughout. Top Tackler Jamie Branton and Man of the Match Jay Black.
