Police Appeal Following Arson – Scaife Close, Beverley

Officers from Humberside Police are appealing for witnesses following an alleged arson incident on Scaife Close, Beverley between 0000hrs and 0200hrs on Monday 24 January 2011.

During the incident it is believed a fire was started in a car that spread to another vehicle and a house.

The fire brigade attended and extinguished the fire, but extensive damage was caused to two cars and the house.

A 19-year-old man was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary with minor burns before being discharged.

A second 19 year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident and remains in police custody.

Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Detective Inspector Tony Cockerill said: “We are currently investigating the circumstances which led to this fire. As part of this investigation we are appealing for witnesses to the incident itself, but also urging people who saw anyone acting suspiciously around the area to contact the police.

“Officers are also reviewing CCTV in the Beckside and Flemingate area and I would urge anyone with private CCTV in this area to call Humberside Police.

“Early indications suggest that the fire may have been started using an accelerant and therefore we would like to speak to anyone who has information about anyone buying a small quantity of petrol at a petrol station in Hull or Beverley.”
