Beverley Town Warriors, sponsored by Carlton Glazing of Beverley, produced a superb team effort to make the Knock Out cup final for the second consecutive year beating three fellow Myton league teams on the way.
Westella chose to play against the wind in the first half and whilst possession was evenly split Town created the only goal threats.
The lead came from a rasping Harvey Spence shot into the roof of the net following a great flowing move involving Tom Bolton and Nathan Mist. A second followed from Spence when be broke clear of the Westella defence to round the keeper. Shortly before the break Mist turned several defenders and was brought down in the box. The penalty was missed to give Westella hope.
Westella scored within minutes of the restart with a close range header from a corner . Town had to defend for most of the second half as Westella assisted by the wind pressed for an equaliser. For all their possession they could not break through a hard working midfield and defence that, in one scramble, literally threw their bodies on the line to preserve the slender lead. This battling spirit meant that Tom Norton was rarely troubled in the Warriors goal but did all asked of him when called upon.
The defence of James Mason, Kieran Simpson, Keenan Jones and Ben Cook was outstanding supported by the midfield of Callum Smalley, Spence, Mist, Ellis Gray, Harry Headley and Bolton. George Cooper upfront put constant pressure on the Westella defence when in possession.
