Swimmers in the East Riding, who would like to help raise money for charity, are invited to take part in the 2011 Swimathon, a national fundraising event for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Swimathon Foundation.
Events are taking place at leisure centres in Beverley, Bridlington, Driffield, Haltemprice, Hornsea and Withernsea between Friday, 8 and Sunday, 10 April.
The event is the world’s biggest fundraising swim and offers the perfect opportunity start the New Year on a healthy note.
Swimming is proven to be a great form of exercise whatever your ability, relaxing for mind and body and helps to build endurance, muscle strength and cardio-vascular fitness.
A two-and-a-half hour swim session will take place at Driffield Leisure Centre on Friday, 8 April, from 8am.
On Saturday, 9 April there will be two three-hour long session taking place at Bridlington Leisure World, from 5pm, and Haltemprice Leisure Centre, from 3pm.
And on Sunday, 10 April there will be three-hour long swim sessions at the Beverley Leisure Complex, from 9am, Hornsea Leisure Centre, from 5pm, and Bridlington Leisure Centre, from 10am. There will also be a two-and-a-half hour long session at the Pavilion Leisure Centre, Withernsea, from 4.30pm.
Funds raised will help support Marie Curie nurses who provide free nursing care to people with terminal cancer and other terminal illnesses, in the place of their choice.
