Students from East Riding College found out about a wide range of religions at a “living faith library” as part of a fortnight of special events.
They were able to talk to followers of eight faiths as part of the “Enjoy and Achieve Fortnight”, with the religions represented being Buddhism, Christianity, Sikhism, Hindu, Quakers, Mormonism, Islam and Judaism.
The events, one each at the Bridlington and Beverley campuses, were a chance for learners to find out more about what people of different faiths believe and why they believe, as well as providing the opportunity to ask any other questions they had.
Enrichment officer Tracy Underwood said:
“Faith and religion play a really significant role in our society and so we felt it was important to allow students to explore these issues with real people.
“The living faith library was really popular and everyone who took part thought it was a rewarding experience, with the students being inquisitive and interested in the various faiths.”
The event were held as part of the College’s “Enjoy and Achieve Fortnight”. Five themed fortnights are held each year to highlight the five main priorities of the government’s Every Child Matters agenda: be healthy; stay safe; enjoy and achieve; make a positive contribution; and achieve economic well-being.
