Angry Hunter Remains Focused on Title

Humber Colts’ chairman Rob Hunter has hit back at accusations his club are “bad losers” following the acrimonious end to Sunday’s derby clash with Inter Beaver.

Colts had free-roaming midfielder Tom Moore sent off following his reaction to Scott-Jon Tyler’s ugly challenge with only ten minutes to go in a match Inter won 2-1.

Tyler received a straight red for the foul, while Inter’s Adam Pardoe was also dismissed for his part in the melee that ensued.

It prompted Inter’s Stew Scott to call the Colts “bad losers”, a statement that Hunter refutes.

He told HU17.net: “It was a bone-crunching challenge on Tom Moore, but he should not have reacted the way he did.

“The club does not condone such behaviour and we have dealt with Tom internally and fined him.

“As a Chartered Standard Club, league champions and current league leaders we take fair play seriously and until Sunday’s little fiasco we had picked up just two yellow cards in our entire illustrious history.”

“We are fighting for the league title while Inter are fighting for their lives to stay in the league. We beat them on their patch earlier in the season 3 – 2, so if anything we have the advantage on away goals.”

When asked to ‘defend the indefensible’ – Tom Moore’s reaction to the challenge – Hunter responded: “I think that is quite easy. The tackle on Tom would not be acceptable off the pitch, so why should it be okay on the pitch?

“Fellow players should respect one another, not kick lumps out of each other. We can only hope that Inter Beaver deal with their players.”

This week, the Humber Colts travel to Parkers, with Hunter and manager Tony Henderson confident the side has the ‘bouncebackability’ to return to winning ways. They expect to be backed by a travelling army of fans who will make the short journey into Hull.

Henderson himself wanted to draw a line under the Inter clash.

Speaking exclusively to HU17.net, Henderson said: “Myself, the chairman, secretary, players and supporters are all disappointed after being beaten for the first time this season.

“I fell if we had taken our chances in the first half, which we dominated, we could and should have gone in three of four goals up at half time.”

“The second half was a much more even contest and a point apiece have been a fair result.”

“As for the incident at the end of the match, it was more handbags at the break of dawn then anything else.”

“We as a club do not condone that sort of conduct and will not be appealing against the red card issued to Tom Moore, but have dealt with it in house.”

“I accepted the apology from the Inter player at the end of the game and have now moved on. We have an excellent set of lads to work with and we are proud of their performances this season.

“We have consolidated top spot in the league since the beginning of the season and we are concentrating on getting back to winning ways, which showed in mid week training, and pushing for our second consecutive title.”

“We at the Humber Colts wish Inter all the best in their relegation battle for the rest of the season.”
