A ground-breaking ceremony tomorrow – Tuesday 1 March 2011 – will mark the start of the main construction for the outstanding new community hospital for the East Riding at Swinemoor Lane, Beverley.
Karen Knapton, Chairman of NHS East Riding of Yorkshire, will officially break the ground for the main hospital building joined by local Community Hospital Liaison Committee representatives and others who have been closely involved in the project.
Following planning approval last year there has been a great deal of activity on site. Archaeological surveys and wildlife surveys are now complete within the main construction area at the front of the site. Site set up is complete and work has commenced on internal access roads.
Work to construct the entrance to the hospital, footpath widening and new signal junctions will begin in March 2011.
The new hospital is innovative and flexible in design and meets the highest environmental standards. It makes use of natural light and ventilation, to provide the ideal environment for patient care. Clinicians who will be working within the hospital have been involved throughout the development.
Karen Knapton said:
“It is fantastic news for everyone concerned. It has been quite a journey to get to this stage and we will now begin to see the culmination of all the hard work.
“Throughout the project we have really focused on the people who are going to use the hospital and how it will help deliver better health outcomes for patients with long term conditions within our East Riding community.
“I am delighted to be officially ‘breaking the ground’ and I want to thank everyone who has given their time and support to the development to get it this far.”
