Tanners Secure Promotion With Away Draw at Howden

A point was all that was needed for Hodgsons in order to gain promotion to the Humber Premier League, and they got just that.

In what proved to be a very tough match, the tanners had to come from behind not once, but twice.

Without leading scorer Adam Foster a start was given to Jordan Dexter. Danny Piwinski failed a late fitness test which meant Karl Wallis was able to come straight into the team.

The first half proved a fruitless half, with perhaps Dexter having the best chance for the away side, however his shot was placed just wide of the goal much to his bemusement.

At the other end Howden created chances, although not clear cut, keeper Mike Morris kept them at bay.

The second half saw the goals starting to flow. Howden opened the scoring through Danny Best, his speculative shot looped over Morris to give Howden what was perhaps a well deserved lead.

Hodgsons FC rallied themselves back into the match and grabbed an equaliser from the head of winger Danny Atkinson.

Once again Howden continued to attack and looked dangerous when coming forward. This persistence paid off as they then took a 2-1 lead.

With 20 mins or so remaining the away side knew they had to push on, and captain Paul Silvester scored for the second week running to make it 2-2.

Considering the way the match was played out, a point wasn’t such a bad thing for Hodgsons. With no match on the 12th March, this gives an opportunity for Thorne, Atkinson and Piwinski to recover from knocks.

Next up for Hodgsons FC, and not until the 19th March, is a trip to Long Riston.

Final Score: Howden Amateurs 2 Hodgsons FC 2
