The Blue and Golds progressed to second round of the Council Cup and were good value for their win which could have been by a much bigger margin. The referee disallowed at least four touchdowns two of which were very borderline forward passes.
On a very cold afternoon the hosts started brightly with Craig Hamlet diving over wide out following some slick handling. Rob Thompson added the difficult conversion. There was no shortage of enthusiasm from the visitors despite their lowly league position and they deservedly pulled back a try taking advantage of some ordinary tackling.
The home side hit back aided by a string of penalties and some enterprising handling saw Lee Falcus score what looked like a perfectly good try only for the referee to judge a knock on. Pressure finally paid off for Beverley ARLC when after a messy build up which saw the ball go to ground at least twice, Louis Hubbard and Sam Coleman combined to send Lee Atkinson over in the corner too wide out for Thompson to convert. That sent hosts 10-6 up at the interval.
Beverley ARLC went out for the second half determined to go in for the kill. Five minutes into the half Gavin Proctor scooted off from the dummy half position to send Craig Hamlet over for his second try.
Thompson added the extras. Minutes later Hamlet completed his hattrick following more crisp handling. Thompson was having a good afternoon with the boot and again added the touchline conversion.
Beverley ARLC were now prizing their opponents open with ease but the scoreline failed to reflect this as three second half tries were disallowed for forward passes. Aaron Horsfied and Gavin Proctor led the team well by example and laid the foundations for the backs of which Craig Hamlet was the standout performer.
This Saturday sees Beverley ARLC return to league action. They play the same side GW Horners away in a 2pm kick off at Costello Playing Fields.
