A Mile in Memory: Louise Barrett Walks for Ellis

On the weekend of 14/15th May 2011 thousands of people all over the UK will be walking a mile in memory of a baby they loved and lost in what has become an annual event.

Last year over 80 walks took place all over the world raising over £65,000. Since 2011 is FSID’s 40th anniversary we want to make this year’s Mile in Memory even bigger and better!

Louise Barrett is coordinating a one-mile sponsored walk over the Humber Bridge in memory of her son, Ellis, who was lost to cot death 8 years ago.

Louise said;

“It is a simple, effective and fun way to raise money and awareness for cot death research and support, and commemorate the life of someone close to you.”

“What’s more, as it’s only a mile children can take part too! Some people even brought their dogs along last year.  I shall be running the Jane Tomlinson 10k in the morning so it shall certainly be an energetic day for me!”

Cot death is still the UK’s biggest killer of babies over one month old. The money raised will go towards vital research into the causes of cot death, support for bereaved families and promotion of our lifesaving infant care messages.

Hundreds walking at the same time all over the country is a powerful and beautiful way to commemorate the precious lives lost to cot death. Come and be a part of it.
