Milner Free Kick Rescues Point For Rangers

With several key players missing Moley produced one of their poorest performances of the season slipping up in the promotion race managing only a draw as both Wawne Ferry and Hodgsons won.  Conditions were atrocious with a hard bumpy pitch and strong winds making attractive football difficult but the hosts seemed to adjust to it the quicker without really testing the Molescroft keeper.

Chances were at a premium and Molescroft found it hard to get the ball to stick to forwards Spruce and Moore with all too often an attack being broken up easily leaving Aldborough to counter.  It was one of these attacks that led to the opening goal, Aldboroughs left winger found space on the flank and squared the ball on the edge of the area for their midfielder to smash an unstoppable shot past the Moley keeper giving him no chance at all.

Molescroft Rangers had once chance to level just before the break when Sam Dixon was put through only to see his blistering strike tipped over by the Aldborough keeper but all in all 1-0 was a fair result with Molescrofts first half work ethic absent without leave.  The second half saw Molescroft up their game, strong words from the management team of Healey and Bolger at the break seemed to have an immediate effect as Moley began to exert their superiority over the hosts.

An early change with Bolger coming on for Moore up front saw a marked difference in the amount of through balls being held up and this seemed to bring top scorer Spruce more into the game.  For all of Molescrofts pressure it seemed difficult to see where a goal was coming from……up step Nick Milner….a free kick for hand ball just outside the Aldborough box saw the Moley midfielder on as a second half substitute for the injured Coates, step up to take the dead ball.

Giving the keeper the eyes, hips and groin Milner superbly curled his shot into the corner of the goal to the delight of his teammates.  What made Milner’s strike even more remarkable was the fact that he’d got completely lost on the way to the ground and after ending up in Scarborough didn’t even think he’d get to the game on time.  From that point on it looked as if Molescroft would complete the comeback and in the final minute of the game Moley forced a corner after a dangerous cross from Warmsly was tipped out of play by the hosts keeper only for the resultant kick to come to nothing.

After the game a disappointed Moley reflected on dropped points back at the pub, a measure of the teams improvement given this is the clubs first season in league 2.

Final Score: Aldborough 1 Molescroft Rangers 1
