Town Held at Home By Pock in Humber Premier

Marshal Tyres sponsored Pocklington travelled the short distance to the Norwood Recreation Ground to face Beverley Town for their third game in 8 days and with both sides effectively canceling each other out, a typically hard fought local derby saw Pock record their second draw in 4 days.

With three players unavailable from the midweek game, Manager Rich Bower brought in Rob Kunkel, Martin Day and on loan Dave O’Connor to bolster his squad and an even first 15 minutes saw both sides vying for the upper hand on a firm surface. Beverley Town created the first chance when a long throw was flicked on and it needed a smart save from Kunkel to parry the ball away with the help of a booted clearance as the home side showed how dangerous they would be from set pieces.

With Beverley Town playing with a new keeper, a miskick from a back pass caused panic until the ball was hacked clear and with Town struggling as Beverley enjoyed control of the game, the home side took the lead direct from a corner as Pock allowed a low delivery to bounce twice before being hacked away from behind the line.

This was a poor goal to give away and left Pock a behind at the interval but to the credit of this young side, they showed resiliance to equalise 4 minutes into the second period with the best move of the game. With Beverley pressing with a corner, Pock broke out with a pass to James Haigh. His pin point pass sent Craig Hargreaves away down the left wing and despite the presence of a Beverley defender, “Nige” managed to get in a well struck angled drive that went across the keeper and into the far corner to level the game.

Forced to retire with an injury sustained in scoring, Hargreaves was replaced by Martin Day as Pock tried to press down the flanks and with both sides going for all 3 points, Kunkel did well with high crosses into the area as Hardy and Watkinson also excelled in the air under strong Beverley pressure. Rob Jefferson came on and troubled the experienced home defence with his pace and enthusiasm.

A left foot effort needed a save from the home keeper on 86 minutes while Haigh cut inside for another effort from Jeffersons intuitive cross field ball as Pock finished the game strongly but despite a lot of effort from both sides, the points were shared in a game where clear cut chances were at a premium.
