Fenners Squeeze Past Weakened Blue and Golds

The blue and golds went down to a narrow defeat in a game that had a distinct end of season feel to it. Beverley, with a long injury list appeared to have almost half a side watching on the touchline and took the field with a makeshift line up.

However they did start the brighter of the two  sides and went close to scoring in the 5th minute when a towering bomb towards the corner was palmed on by Lee Falcus into the hand of wing-man Andy Hay only for him to be surrounded by defenders and dragged into touch.

The game trundled on until the visitors opened the scring with a try in the 22nd minute before they increased their advantage to 8-0 with a further score just before the interval.

The home side came to life in the second half with introduction of substitute Darren Whitehead breathing life into the preceedings with several determined charges. After a wave of several attacks they finally got on the scoresheet in the 62nd minute with Craig Hamlet going over to cap a fine performance in attack and defence.

The home side upped the ante for the final minutes of the game but could not get the vital score in a game littered with stoppages. The referee blew up for time amazingly playing only 40 seconds of injury time.

In a less than memorable game Ian Pollard, Craig Hamlet and Lee Stevens stood out with determined performances despite the latter two spending ten minutes in the sin bin.

This weekend sees no Hull & District League fixtures due to the televised Super League fixture between Hull KR and Leeds being held  this Saturday afternoon.
