The prolific Kevin Ryan/ Philip Makin partnership was in top form as they claimed the main prize at Beverley Racecourse’s first meeting of the season.
Makin rode 14/1 shot Breathless Kiss to victory in the ‘Spring Into Racing At Beverley’ Handicap, the day’s feature race.
In a tense finish, Makin’s class shone through as he drove Breathless Kiss home to beat the nearest challenger, 8-1 shot Beat The Bell, by a neck.
It was the 29th winner of an already prolific start to the season for North Yorkshire trainer Ryan, while for Makin it was his 26th win from 95 races so far in 2011.
13-2 favourite Whozthecat could only finish fifth.
There was also a creditable performance from Beverley Racecourse’s Kyne-Walker scholarship jockey Julie Burke.
She came in seventh on 20-1 shot Arganil, also trained by Ryan.
