Beverley Racecourse’s first meeting of the season was blessed by fantastic weather on the Westwood.
Thousands of punters enjoyed the conditions for the suitably named ‘Spring Into Racing At Beverley’ meeting.
Among those making the most of a superb day of racing were former Hull City captain Ian Ashbee, BBC Radio Humberside legend David Burns and Beverley ARLC manager Richard Shaw.
The racing got off to a slightly muted start as star jockey Paul Hanagan was thrown from his horse Rowan Lodge, but he picked himself up, dusted himself down and put in a superb performance to bring the 7-2 shot home first to claim the Welcome Back To Beverley Stakes.
Barry McHugh’s mount Lily’s Angel won the day’s second race, the Racing On Sky 432 Maiden Auction Stakes at 9-2, before Philip Makin and Kevin Ryan claimed the feature race ‘Spring Into Racing at Beverley’ Handicap on 14-1 shot Breathless Kiss.
The other winners on the day were Patrick Donaghy on 4-1 shot Dance For Julie in the 3.40, Silvestre de Sousa on 5-1 shot Art History in the 4.10 and Robert Winston on 13-2 shot City Legend in the 4.40.
