Fisher Header Seals Promotion For Eager Beaver

The Eager Beaver secured promotion to Wyke 4 in their first season with a fine home win against FC Rosedale.

Manager Andy Rawlings knew the importance of the game and played his best side from the off with Danny Bone once again being left on the bench.

The Eager Beaver did not start well and found themselves a goal behind, but two goals from their talisman, Rob West, and one from Sam West gave the home side a commanding 3-1 lead.

FC Rosedale came forward and started to create more chances, and scored almost from the re-start, but Danny Puckering extended the Eager Beaver’s lead to 4–2.

It seemed that would be enough but an over confident Eager Beaver were made to pay as they conceded twice from long balls over the top to level the match 4 – 4.

With time running out dead ball specialist Danny Bone was introduced; instantly his playmaking skills and vision opened up FC Rosedale defence but a goal would not come.

Eventually Eager Beaver did score; Bone fired in a deep corner and skipper Karl Fisher who had been a real threat in air all game jumped the highest to head home and send the home sides fans crazy on the touch line.

After the match Andy Rawlings said:

“It has been an emotional roller coaster game, we needed to win and for much of the match it looked like we would.”

“Chucking a 3-1 lead away was hard to take on the touchline though the team showed character and desire out there and it is fitting that our captain got the vital goal.”
