Beverley RUFC Under 13’s hosted Driffield at Beaver Park on a sunny April Sunday morning. After a heavy defeat by Market Rasen the previous week the young Beavers were looking for a better result.
Beverley learned from the previous week and started with the correct intensity from minute one. An early pick up from the back of the scrum by number 8 Ruairi Sinkler resulted in the first try for the Beavers.
Both sides contested open play with create vigour which followed with a try from the opposing team to even the scores. Both sides battled for the ball and scores were registered by Dan Constable for the home team with two replies from Driffiield strong backs leaving the score at 19-10 at half time.
Both sides entered the second half with renewed vigour with Beverley gaining the ascendancy through forward play from Charlie McClusker and Robert Cunningham at back row.
Each set piece Beverley were in control with Paul and Matt LeVine driving the scrum forward. Driffield battled back and it was a real contest of wills. Beverley continued to recover loose ruck ball with Dan Constable and Harvey Rann recovering consecutive ball to allow forward running.
Beverley kept the ball close to their forwards with Niall Carruthers distributing excellent passes to allow his forwards to run forward and gain ground. This distribution allowed Sinkler to follow up with two tries to make the scores 26-19 including conversions.
Man of the match was given to Niall Carruthers for his distribution skills at scrum half allowing his forwards to take the ball forward and also for tactical kicking in defence.
Beverley were very pleased to have a win against a strong opposing East Yorkshire rugby union side and record another good victory for the season.
Beverley are constantly looking to recruit new players. To join the under 13 squad players should be in Year 8, training is on a Wednesday evening 6.30-8.00pm at Beverley RUFC. No previous experience necessary.
