My name is Neil Bant. I’m thirty six, married with two children and have lived around Beverley for 19 years. I went to Beverley Grammar School, gained my degree locally and now work for Kingston Communications.
I am standing to represent the St. Marys Ward where I live. Some candidates standing do not live in our ward. I believe that having a candidate who lives within the ward they represent will make more informed decisions that affect us all. I will represent all opinions in our ward as local elections are about local issues and not about national politics.
After reading in our local papers about gold plated pension payouts for senior officers, I decided to take a stand and I will represent your feelings on issues like this. The problem is there is no coalition in Beverley and an ineffective opposition. The Conservatives have 46 councillors that can simply outvote all 18 opposition councillors in the East Riding. You can now re-address this balance on 5th May.
To help our local economy prosper we must attract visitors to Beverley. Unfair parking charges, road repairs, traffic issues and coach parking are some of my priorities. The council must maintain our iconic monuments. Did you realise our Market Cross is in such a state of disrepair?
Our Target 45+ recycling scheme is way behind other councils. Let’s make this Target 65+ together. With severe winters we must be prepared with adequate gritting and grit bins at schools, hospitals and surgeries.
I stand for well funded public services, but to safeguard jobs I will challenge the council to eliminate wasteful spending. My family supports our community by running our St. Marys Brownies group.
Thank you for listening to me and I will listen to you.
Neil Bant, St. Marys Ward.
