Louis Hubbard Brace Helps Blue & Golds to Victory

The blue and golds grabbed 2 more precious league points in a patchy performance at the Beverley Leisure Centre in which they just about demonstrated their superiority. Disaster struck in the first minute  of the game when a sloppy pass was intercepted by the visitors who scored beside the posts. The hosts did however force a line drop out with the restart kick but failed to get over the line with the resultant set of six.

It proved to be a frustrating first half of missed chances. Craig Hamlet got over the line in the 10th minute but lost the ball in the act of scoring and moments later Mike Cooper rounded off what looked like a good handling movement with a try but was pulled back for a forward pass. Persistance finally payed off after half an hour when Steve Conley decided to take on the visitors himself and outpace the cover defence to score in the corner. Steve Davidson tacked on the difficult conversion and Beverley went into the interval with a good deal more optomism.

Beverley attempted to turn the screw in the opening moments of the second half  and Mike Cooper extended their lead getting on the end of a passing movement on the last tackle. They continued to pile on the pressure and Steve Conley claimed his second try with a dart from the dummy half position in the 55th minute.

The hosts were playing some more expansive football at this stage and the try of the match followed when Louis Hubbard went over latching onto Steve Davidson’s intricate inside pass which involved several decoy runners. Hubbard then added his second try as the ball was swiftly shipped across the line direct from the scrum. The visitors added a consolation try on the stroke of full time to round off the afternoon’s scoring.

Louis Hubbard took the man of the match award with his brace of tries catching the eye but Lee Stevens ran him close with another typically wholehearted performance which wreaked havoc in the visiting defence.

Beverley have no game this Saturday and their final league game will be on Saturday 30th April. They are entered in the usual end of season cups but it is not yet clear who they will be playing or what format the cups will take.

Final Score: Beverley ARLC 24 GW Horners 10
