Angels in Action: We Are Flying!

The summer of 2011 is set to bring a new surge of excitement to the East Riding, when ‘Angels In Action’ help to bring you live music, family fun activities and electrifying entertainment.

Angels in Action, the Youth in Action initiative being rolled out by a group of young people from the Beverley-based CSV East Riding project, is now in flight according to the coach, Sue Dudill.  The team is recruiting far and wide to gather participants aged 16 to 30 covering the 5 events and festivals they are supporting which so far include:

  • The Beverley Festival 17th to 19th June – We’ll be supporting the event and touring the town promoting a green environment suitable for all ages with freebies up for grabs.
  • The Driffield Show 20th July – Have your shorts, sunglasses and sun cream at the ready because even if the weathers not hot, this event certainly is and we’ll have a scorching time helping out on the day.
  • The Hornsea Carnival 23rd July – Complete with an ‘international’ themed parade, food from all over the world and live entertainment we’re there to support what will be a perfect summer’s day out.
  • The Withernsea Carnival 30th July – Turn the music up and feel the beat at this seaside resort because we are guaranteeing you the best bands and the best entertainment to end a great day at this free open air concert.
  • Goole Beach Day 6th August – If you don’t fancy travelling out to the coast then sit back and relax because we’re bringing the beach to you. Volley ball, water sports and children’s activities are all here for one day only; it’s an event not to be missed.

Phil Thompson, participant, said, ‘this is an amazing project in which to be involved as our contribution to each event is so different.  We are really thrilled because the national website www.do-it.org.uk have chosen Angels in Action to be their ‘opportunity of the month’ in May. For me I am particularly excited about the fact that we are also spreading the word to all 18 to 30 year olds that now for the first time, we have a British Council Sending Organisation for the European Voluntary Service (EVS) in our area which is CSV East Riding.

This means we can go abroad for up to 12 months and have a fantastic experience for free’. The ‘angels’ are not just here to spread their joy around the summer; they’re here to provoke a journey, whether it’s for the appeal of making new friends or discovering a new career path or something else, EVS has the capability to offer a vast range of volunteering opportunities that span all over the world.

The attraction of being part of this unique project is that not only do all the ‘angels’ get to attend and be actively involved in these 5 top events but they also each receive a European Commission Youthpass, all of which looks fantastic on a CV and in a record of achievement. As an added bonus each participant will receive a copy of the DVD being produced of the entire project by the Media Crew headed up by participant Kate Carter-Rigg.

In this year, The European Year of Volunteering 2011, the team is particularly pleased to be recruiting and working with some really motivated young people from Poland who are helping to drive the project forward and continue with the international cooperation which originated over a year ago in Bologna, Italy, during the CSV YouWorth citizenship project. http://www.angeliallefermate.it/

  1. Thanks David. We are thrilled with how it’s all going and the response we’ve had from young people wanting to do something with their time this summer which is both worthwhile and fun. It is a one off and a shame there aren’t more things like this all year round.

  2. True, looks like I’ve found a major sponsor for Armed Forces Day (TBC), remember you heard it first on HU17.

So it’s full steam ahead all guns blazing!

  3. Wow that’s great news and well done. You took action, YOU made it happen. We only get great things in our memory box by saying ‘YES’!
