Danny Robinson scored a scorching, 30-yard screamer as Beverley ARLC nearly pulled off the impossible in their fund-raising football encounter with Hodgsons FC at Beverley Leisure Centre yesterday.
Following on from their narrow defeat in their rugby clash, fans of The Tanners would have hoped for an easier time with the round ball at their feet against a less mobile Blue and Golds side.
But it couldn’t have been further from the truth. The Blue and Golds used their muscle to good effect, with Ian Pollard and Lee Stevens in particular putting it about.
And they roared into the lead with an absolute stunner from Robinson. He picked up the ball 30 yards out, pulled back his left peg and smashed a curling rocket under the bar of the rugby posts.
Soon, however, and despite Beverley’s best efforts The Tanners’ superior skills shone through and they pulled the game level when Steve Davidson was left rooted to the ground as a speculative Hodgsons effort flew over his head.
They eventually took the lead and left the field with their heads held high and a 2-1 victory to their name.
