Blue & Golds Beaten in Final Home Fixture

The blue and golds ended their league season at the Beverley Leisure Centre in dissapointing style. Not for the first time this season, they let a winning position slip when they led 24-14 midway through the second half having clawed their way back from an initial 10-0 defecit.

The visitors were quick out of the traps with two tries in the first 10 minutes. The fightback began when Steve Davidson’s entrerprising crossfield kick was pounced on by Steve Jonson playing in the unaccustomed role of centre and playing his first game back since breaking his wrist. Joe Stevenson continued the momentum with a converted try to level things up at 10-10.

They went close to taking the lead just before half time when Steve Davidson’s well weighted kick ahead just went into touch close to the opposition line with Steve Jonson haring down on it. The visitors stole a try just before the whistle to lead 14-10 at the intrerval.

The home side went out for the second half fired up and Lee Atkinson cleaned up some messy play picking up a pass that went to ground to score in the corner to level things up. The fowards were starting to get on top with Lee Stevens leading the charge with several bustling runs. Gavin Proctor added a further try from the dummy half position to put Beverley in the lead.

The try of the match then followed as Steve Davidson’s neat pass sent Steve Jonson racing away for him to give a return pass for Davidson himself to score a converted try beneath the posts and Beverley were cruising at 24-14.

Then it all went sadly wrong. Beverley conceded three tries in the final 15 minuted of normal time plus 10 minutes of stoppage time. Some controversal  refereeing decisions incensed th home supporters and officials and led to another frustrating afternoon. Lee Stevens deseverdly took the man of the match award once again proving a real handful when taking the ball in.

Beverley ARLC will play Haworth Park at Haworth Park this Saturday in one of the end of season cups. Kick off time is still to be confirmed at the time of going to press.
