Time is running out to enrol on a new short course designed to prepare people for a job working with children and vulnerable adults.
The Bitesize: Safeguarding and Child Protection course at East Riding College in Beverley, is a six-week level four course (A-levels are level three) to be held at the Beverley campus in Gallows Lane. The first session will take place on Wednesday, May 25, from 1pm to 4pm.
It will give participants a thorough grounding in the essential concepts of safeguarding and child protection and is aimed at people who are preparing for or already have a job working with children and vulnerable adults or who are planning to do a foundation degree or degree in this area. People who successfully complete the course will earn 10 university credits which are validated by the University of Hull and which will give extra weight to an application to study at university.
Assistant director Alison Gray said: “The course will cover a wide variety of concepts in these crucial areas of working in the care sector.
“As well as helping to prepare people for a job in care, it is also a stepping stone to a higher education course as it is at a level above A-levels and also earns you credits which will strengthen your application to university.”
The course will look at the following key points: Child protection issues – changes at community level ; social changes, parenting styles; different types of abuse, including bullying and harassment; legislation relevant to safeguarding; predisposing factors; strategies to support families where abuse of a child is suspected; development of concepts – protection to safeguarding; multi-agency working; and advocacy and empowerment.
