Boost Ahead Of Armed Forces Day

Beverley Armed Forces Day should be bigger than ever before after receiving two helpful boosts in the build up to the event.

It’s the third year of Armed Forces Day in Beverley and previous years have seen Saturday Market crammed with visitors who want to show their respect to members of the armed force. It also provides a lift to the town’s retailers, especially pubs and restaurants.

There had been some concerns early in the planning for this year’s event that cuts to military budgets would mean less funding for Armed Forces Day.

But after lots of hard work, a discount from stage hire firm TEGA and help from military transport charity DefLog Trust, councillor David Elvidge, Armed Forces Day Chairman, expects it to be another entertaining day in Beverley.

“TEGA offering us a huge discount has helped and we are now in a position, thanks to the DefLog Trust, to put on a bigger event then we have ever done before.

“We are however still waiting for news on another grant to help us provide more entertainment for younger people.

“I can’t say enough how overwhelmed I am by the support being offered by locals who wish to be volunteer stewards or help out on the day.”

David has given HU17.net a list of the attractions confirmed for Armed Forces Day so far. There will also be plenty of military presence in terms of current servicemen and woman, veterans and territorials and lots of involvement from charities.
