Local Runners Maintain Dominance

The second round of Orienteering’s East Yorkshire Short Race Series took place on Saturday (21st May).  Organised by Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteers (HALO), the event consisted of two races of 3km with a handicapped start calculated for the second race.

Local knowledge seemed to have been a big advantage in the event on Beverley Westwood.  The technically demanding Newbegin Pits area of the Beverley Westwood caught many a runner unawares and many seconds were lost hunting for elusive control sites.

The Men’s Open was won by England Junior Zac Field, from Beverley and the Women’s Open was won by Skidby’s Helena Crutchley.

Men
1. Zac Field        Beverley    32:27
2. Brian Ward        South Cave    36:26
3. Dean Field        Beverley    38:16

2. Helen Smith        York        48:05

In the overall standings the only change this week was in the Women’s Veteran class, Christine Roberts of York is now leading that class.
