Despite great knocks at the top of the order, Beverley 2nd XI crashed to a comprehensive defeat at home to York CC 3rd XI.
Beverley were put in after losing the toss at the Norwood Recreation Ground and for a while all looked to be going well.
Tim Smith blazed the way with 66 out of an opening partnership of 118 with Ben Fish, who dropped anchor.
But despite Fish hitting an excellent 81, no one else could grasp the initiative and Beverley could only make 209-7 off their 45 overs.
York always looked like they would chase down their target, despite Nicholas Robinson claiming an early wicket for Beverley.
Wicket-keeper/ opener Kyle Waite showed how strong York are in depth by hitting an unbeaten 101 to take his side to 210-3 and victory off 42.4 overs.
