Countdown Begins To Beverley Festival

Over the weekend of 17-19 June, Beverley Folk, Acoustic and Roots Festival rolls into town, bringing with it an eclectic mix of performers and visitors.

Beverley Leisure Centre is again the heart of the festival, but pubs and other venues in the town will also enjoy their own special atmospheres as musicians and aficionados enjoy each others company.

As usual, the Beverley Festival offers something for all fans of more traditional music, dance, comedy, literature and, for the first time this year, film.

Topping the bill musically on Friday will be singer/ songwriter Paul Carrack and His Band. Paul found international fame with Mike and The Mechanics, among other career highlights adding vocals to their epic hit Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground) from 1986. They will be playing at Beverley Leisure Centre on Friday 17 June.

Saturday night’s main event is Barbara Dickson and Band. The popular Scottish singer found lasting fame with Elaine Paige on the song I Know Him So Well but following a series of acting roles, Barbara has since gone back to her folk roots. The show starts at 7.30pm.

And the Beverley Festival will be rounded off on Sunday night by Bellowhead, winners of Radio 2’s 2011 Folk Award. They are one of the biggest festival bands in the UK and their latest album, Hedonism, has won rave reviews. They also start at 7.30pm.
