Westmoreland Records Highest Ever British Superbikes Finish

Hull-based Motorpoint Yamaha rider James Westmoreland recorded his highest Superbike finishes twice in one day at Knockhill race circuit this weekend.

Westmoreland, 22, still holds lap records in British Supersport and British 125GP at Knockhill. This was evident from his magnificent performance in both races and how he mastered the final hairpin turn of the course.

In race one Westmoreland consistently eat up valuable seconds on that final hairpin to get himself as high as 5th place. It was only in the final 10 laps of the course that he dropped back in the standings to finish 7th. In race two Westmoreland improved on his performance again and finished 5th and cap off a brilliant day for the young Brit.

Race two had delivered an immediate shock when team-mate Loris Baz was involved in a crash on lap three that ruled him out of the race. This left Westmoreland to fly solo for the Motorpoint Yamaha team. It was evident that Westmoreland had to call on his excellent knowledge of the Knockhill track to force his way into 5th and hold his nerve until the finish line.

Says James Westmoreland: “Position 5th and 7th – I’m feeling super pumped! After race one it was good to get an even better result from race two. I showed exactly why I’m in Superbikes today. These results have been coming for a while and we’ve had the speed in the qualifiers and free practice tests consistently this season. Credit has to go to the team as well. They’ve been fantastic sorting the bike out, we’ve arrived where we should be.”
