Beverley Pub Crawl – The Real Ale Quest

With a huge choice of pubs and bars in which to drink in Beverley, deciding where to go to get what you want can be a tricky business.

We at HU17.net have put together a list of eight of our favourite real ale pubs, all offering something different. Do it in order, or do it at how you want.

Let us know if you manage the lot in one go, or have any recommendations of your own.

1. The Sun Inn – 1 Flemingate, Beverley, East Yorkshire, HU17 0NP: One of Beverley’s oldest pub with a reputation for serving some of the best bitter in town. Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and Deuchars are among our favourites.

2. Queen’s Head – Wednesday Market, Beverley, East Yorkshire, HU17 0DG: Head down Eastgate and into Wednesday Market to find the Queen’s Head. Serves great pub food to go alongside house regular ales John Smiths and Green King IPA. Also regular changing guest ales.

3. Green Dragon – 51 Saturday Market, Beverley, East Yorkshire, HU17 8AA‎ : Down Toll Gavel and facing on to Saturday Market, the Green Dragon offers a huge selection of real ales from many less well-known breweries, as well as regular beer festivals and proper cider. The long bar, comfy snugs and excellent food make it a place to have more than one.

4. Dog and Duck – 33 Ladygate, Beverley, East Yorkshire HU17 8BH: Cross Saturday Market and up Dog and Duck Lane is the Dog and Duck. Another hidden gem offering great food, a lively landlord and real ales from around the country.

5. Royal Standard – 30 North Bar Within, Beverley, East Yorkshire, HU17 8DL: North Bar Within’s focal point. Jennings Cumberland Ale is the pick of the crop here, where you can sit in the comfy back room or enjoy the banter in the intimate old-school bar. One of the few pubs in Beverley with Sky Sports.

6. Rose and Crown – North Bar Without, Beverley, East Yorkshire, HU17 7AB: A short walk through North Bar brings you to the Rose and Crown. Beautiful decor, cracking food and with real ales from the Wold Top Brewery, all served with a smile.

  1. A group of us have set on a mission to visit each pub in Beverley. First Friday of the month we visit four or five pubs. Been going since January, and just have 7 or 8 left to visit. Our scores have pretty much matched your favourites – nice to see we’re thinking on the same lines! Would also like to recommend the Woolpack for excellent bitter and atmosphere.

  2. Good walk around good pubs. Do these and others every sunday xmas market day. Amazed how and why no ‘Nellies’ white Horse. A unique pub by any measure and fairly good and cheep SSmiths?? A massive oversight we think
