Youngsters Shine in Eccup

Beverley Athletic Club Juniors travelled to Eccup in West Yorkshire last weekend to take part in the Eccup Junior Road Races.

It was a very successful day out in the countryside with the youngsters bringing home more than half the prizes available.

Taylor Arnott won the one mile race in 6:21 and Jordan Peacock was the first girl to finish.  She was third overall and completed the course in 6:54.

Twelve juniors represented Beverley in the two mile race which included a long climb on the way back to the finishing line.  They won prizes in every age category starting with Jessica Chapman who was fourth overall in 11:57 and first in the GU15 category.  Her younger brother Luke won first prize in the BU13 age group finishing in fifth place, immediately behind his sister.

In the under-13 girls category first prize went to Lauryn Garwood and Morgan Dennis was second.

Other notable performances were by Dayna Arnott and Nicole Dawson who were second in the GU15 and GU17 categories respectively.

After watching his protégés in the junior races, coach Neil Sergeant ran the Eccup 10 mile race and finished in 1:26:21.
